Tigred Crystal expansion to provide more VIP tables

The Tigre de Crystal Casino Resort (pictured) in Russia's Far East will add VIP gaming tables as part of its planned expansion, Eric Landier, executive director of promoter Summit Ascent Holdings, confirmed in a comment to GGRAsia. He added that investment in the property's second phase will remain between US$400 million and US$500 million.

Mr. Lanheer was speaking at a side event of the Global Game Expo (G2E) 2019, a casino industry trade show, in Macau. The Hong Kong-listed Summit Ascent is an investment vehicle for Tigred Crystal, the only casino property currently operating in the integrated entertainment zone in Primorsky Krai, a casino development zone located 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the Russian Pacific port of Vladivostok. The venue is targeting players from neighboring China and other markets in East Asia.

Suncity Group Holdings Ltd, a company cited on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange last month, said it had raised its interest in Summit Ascent's stock to about 27.97%.

Suncity Group Holdings is controlled by Alvin Chau Check Wa, president of privately owned Suncity Group. Some investment analysts say the junket brand is the single biggest contributor to VIP volume in the Macau gaming market.

Mr Landheer told GGRAsia that the Suncity brand is expected to contribute to Tigre de Cristal's Phase 2 plan. "We are now deciding whether to go ahead with the previously announced villa first or start complete construction of Phase 2A," he explained.

The executive said the estimated cost of Phase 2A is about $200 million. It will add 350 hotel rooms, indoor beach clubs, restaurants, shops, and multipurpose venues for conventions and exhibitions. The expansion will also feature a new gaming zone featuring 50 additional VIP gaming tables, 25 public market tables, and 300 slot machines.

The investment in Phase 2B will be between US$200 million and $300 million. "This will be an all-suite hotel with 150 rooms to cater for high-end premium and VIP customers," said Mr. Landheer. "We are looking somewhere between US$400 million and $500 million for the Phase 2 property," he added.

Mr Landheer indicated a delay in the Phase 2 timetable in that the company was pushing for full construction of Phase 2 A and "the solar city is putting a significant amount of effort into design, construction and management."

"The first phase of Phase 2 is expected to be ready in late 2021 or early 2022. We are still working on the schedule for Phase 2," the management told GGRAsia.

Brokerage Union Gaming Securities Asia Inc suggested in a recent note that Tigred Crystal will hit VIP gaming volume next year, up from its forecast of HK$17.2 billion for the year.
